Bridging the Gap Between
Engineering and the Trades
Founded in Puerto Rico in 2015, Maintenance & Repair General Contractors Corp. brings engineering-based reasoning and hands-on mechanical experience together—so that technical decisions are informed by how equipment is built, operated, maintained, and repaired.
Who We Are
M&RGCSM is a Puerto Rico-based mechanical contracting corporation founded on a straightforward conviction: engineering principles and field experience are strongest when they work together.
Our work is guided by practical technical understanding, careful evaluation of operating conditions, and respect for the people responsible for designing, maintaining, and operating mechanical systems. We believe that solving a problem begins with understanding it—not simply replacing the component that failed.
The corporation was established in 2015 by José M. Negrón Matías, whose experience in precision machining, industrial maintenance, mechanical plant supervision, and federal facility operations helped shape its technical philosophy. Today, our objective is to develop that philosophy as an organizational practice shared by the people who perform our work.
Our Foundation: Understanding Machinery from the Inside Out
Our founder began his professional career in 1993 as a toolmaker and machinist. Working with pump shafts and precision components required attention to bearing fits, shaft and sleeve clearances, materials, gears, fasteners, and dimensional tolerances.
Machining also required an understanding of how temperature affects measurement. A component that expands while being machined may need to cool and stabilize before a final finishing pass can achieve the intended dimensions. These were not abstract calculations; they were everyday decisions affecting whether parts would fit and function as intended.
That foundation encouraged an approach to equipment that looks beyond the visible failure to the purpose of each component, its relationship to the assembly, and the conditions under which it operates.
As his career progressed into industrial equipment maintenance, José applied that knowledge to equipment repair. At the Department of Veterans Affairs, he helped introduce more extensive in-house pump and motor repairs, sharing practical knowledge with maintenance personnel and encouraging a more active role in mechanical repair work.
Why We Exist: Connecting Two Essential Perspectives
Through years of fieldwork and supervision, our founder observed a recurring disconnect between technicians and engineers. Field personnel often possessed deep practical knowledge of equipment behavior, while engineering personnel brought analytical methods, design intent, and theoretical understanding. Yet those perspectives were not always exchanged openly or effectively.
Sometimes maintenance decisions did not fully account for practical access, equipment history, or field conditions. At other times, repairs proceeded without a complete understanding of the principles governing system performance.
We believe neither perspective should diminish the other. Sound mechanical decisions require collaboration, careful measurement, and a willingness to learn across disciplines.
As a supervisor, José used technical drawings, system diagrams, and practical discussions to explain engineering principles governing mechanical equipment and system performance. These included psychrometrics, refrigeration thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, pressure-temperature relationships, and the interaction of mechanical components within complex operating systems. His objective was not simply to instruct personnel on how to perform a task, but to develop their understanding of why systems behave as they do, how operating conditions influence performance, and how individual components affect the reliability and efficiency of the entire system.
That commitment to connecting knowledge and practice became a founding purpose of M&RGCSM.
How We Work
Our approach begins with actual conditions in the field. We seek to understand the system, identify the factors contributing to a deficiency, and select corrective measures with reliability and maintainability in mind.
Inspect & Evaluate
Observe operating conditions, review relevant information, and distinguish symptoms from possible causes.
Diagnose & Correct
Apply practical experience and engineering principles to determine and perform appropriate work.
Verify & Document
Check the results, communicate findings, and document completed work and outstanding concerns.
Our guiding sequence: INSPECT → EVALUATE → DIAGNOSE → CORRECT → VERIFY → DOCUMENT. Engineering design and other regulated professional services, where required, remain the responsibility of appropriately licensed professionals.
Our People, Our Knowledge
We believe that technical knowledge becomes more valuable when it is shared. A durable organization cannot depend on one person's experience alone; it must build the capabilities of its personnel and make sound practices repeatable.
We aim to encourage learning, thoughtful questions, and respectful collaboration among technicians, supervisors, and engineering professionals. We want personnel to understand not only how to complete a task, but why particular methods, measurements, and tolerances matter.
Our long-term vision includes creating opportunities for local skilled workers, supporting their professional development, expanding the company's technical capabilities, and contributing to Puerto Rico's economy through commercial, institutional, and government projects.
The Principles That Guide Us
Technical Understanding
We seek the reasons behind equipment behavior and failure before deciding how to respond.
Respect Across Disciplines
We value the contributions of both field personnel and engineering professionals.
Reliability & Accountability
We emphasize appropriate corrective work, verification, clear communication, and documentation.
Developing People
We aim to strengthen local technical talent through shared knowledge and continued learning.
Our Purpose
To connect engineering knowledge with practical mechanical experience, deliver technically responsible services, and help develop the next generation of skilled personnel.
M&RGCSM is a company built on experience—and committed to making that experience useful to its customers, its employees, and the communities it serves.
